Monday, October 19, 2009 – Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy has noted the eagerness of the Saint Lucian public to visit the Logos Hope vessel, with its diverse offerings.
The floating library, as it is known, is back in Saint Lucia and is berthed at Point Seraphine for the next two weeks.
The Governor General was the vessel’s special guest at a ceremony to mark the inaugural voyage of the Logos Hope to the island.
“Knowledge is assuming greater and greater importance these days. We now talk about knowledge economy, knowledge industry. The ministry of the word which LOGOS Hope is particularly involved in, is one of the reasons which that knowledge, that information, is spread throughout the world,” the Governor General remarked.
Managing Director of Logos Hope, Gian Walser, said Logos Hope was more than a book ship.
He says apart from book sales the ship also extends literary aid to people in developing counties.
“The Logos Hope's vision is to make a difference in this world. As you look around, before we see God’s wonderful creation, we see people we see suffering, and God has a message of hope. We as the Logos Hope community, are messengers of this hope.”
Over thirty nine million visitors have passed through the on-board book fairs since the ships began sailing in 1970. The Logos Hope comprises crew members of forty five different nationalities—all volunteers.
The ship’s visit here is being facilitated by several private sector companies and the government of Saint Lucia. |
