Monday, November 2, 2009 – On the heels of the 16th Annual Conference and Trade Show of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association, which ended in Saint Lucia last weekend, the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA), and the National Development Corporation (NDC) collaborated for the official opening of the 2009/2010 cruise season.
The opening was marked by two short ceremonies, one at the Pointe Seraphin Duty Free Shopping Complex and the other at the Castries Harbour.
Ina James, Operations Manager of the Pointe Seraphin Duty Free Shopping Complex, says the coming together of the two organizations, which share the same goal, will allow for visitors to the country to experience a more fulfilling stay on the island.
“For the first time ever La Place Carenage and Pointe Seraphin have together marked this special occasion. As a sister port across the harbour, we are very happy to ensure that the thousands of guests who grace our shores this season, have a very unforgettable experience in Saint Lucia.”
Two new vessels Pacific Dream Pullmuntur and Ventura, were welcomed during Monday’s ceremony. Captain of the Pacific Dream Pullmuntur, Ronald Anderson said the vessel will be making weekly calls into Saint Lucia for the next five months.
The local tourism industry braces itself for a buoyant cruise season, with an expected four hundred vessels and close to seven hundred thousand passengers. |
