Friday, November 6, 2009 – Saint Lucia is among four venues selected to host the third edition of ICC World Twenty 20, scheduled for April 30 to May 16, 2010. The event offers tickets to forty-two matches, many of which will be premium viewing as Pakistan and England defend the men’s and women's titles respectively.
At the ICC West Indies 20/20 tickets sales launch in Barbados, where the finals will be held on Sunday May 16th next year, Tournament Director Robert Bryan, presented an update on a number of key tournament elements. He noted that all organizing and planning committees are in place and working to ensure a successful tournament.
“The draft master security plan has been completed and is presently being reviewed. The medical plan is mostly complete in all venues. Inspection of all match and practice venues, and recommendations for remedial work have been shared with the stadium authorities. We will continue to monitor implementation in a timely manner. Specifically, the unique requirements for our dressing rooms have our focus and attention. We are now in the design phase and expect to complete them in the required time frame.”
President of the West Indies Cricket Board, Dr. Julian R. Hunte, said that the process of selling tickets will define the quality of planning and how well the tournament is received by fans in the Caribbean and around the world.
“The sales of tickets is one of the most effective and tangible barometer for measuring public excitement and expression about a particular event. This is no different. The ticket prices are very attractive—some might say even cheap. It is not often that a fan can boast to see some of the best players in a sport competition for US 40.00,” Hunte said.
Kensington Oval in Barbados, the Guyana National Stadium and Beausejour Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia, will host men’s matches, while the first round of women's matches will be held at Warner Park, in Saint Kitts. |
