Thursday,  November 19, 2009  Home Affairs and National Security Minister Senator Honourable Guy Mayers has emphasised the importance for effective mechanisms to secure and manage critical information.

Minister Mayers was speaking at an Information Security Governance and Management Seminar on Wednesday.

He says effective information security incorporates the best security products, technologies, policies and procedures.

“As access to computer stored data has increased, information security has become correspondingly important, because your information can be compromised if there are not proper structures in place.”

The Home Affairs and National Security Minister recommend that businesses invest in training for their staff, to equip them with the best practices, policies and technologies in information management.

“Information management is a corporate responsibility that needs to be addressed and followed from the uppermost senior levels of management to the front line worker.”

Organisations must be held, “and hold their employees accountable to capture, manage, preserve and deliver information appropriately and responsibly,” Mayers said.
