Tuesday, November 17, 2009 – As Saint Lucia celebrates St Cecilia – Feast of Musicians on Sunday 22nd November 2009, the Cultural Development Foundation along with other agencies have put together a programme of activities towards this special occasion.
On Tuesday 17th November at 8:00 pm, NTN’s Nation Beat programme will be featuring John Bailey of the School of Music, Gregory Piper – Musical Director of Royal Saint Lucia Police Band, Phillip Sydney – President of the National Steel Bands Association, and Petronilla Deterville of CAMDU, Ministry of Education in discussion on the topic “A Viable Vision for the Saint Lucian Music Industry”.
On Friday 20th November at 8:30 am, Radio Saint Lucia’s The Agenda will feature CDF Special Events Coordinator, Buffalo Odlum, Barbara Cadet and Christopher Hunte in discussion on the topic “Saint Lucia’s Music – Challenges and Directives”.
On Saturday 21st November at 6:00 am, Lime Diamond Steel will perform at Marchand, opposite Branford, Digicel Pantime will perform from 10 am to 12 noon at the William Peter Boulevard, while the Ricky Francois Quartet sponsored by the management of Blue Coral will perform inside the Blue Coral building, and a morning jam with DJs will be held at Steve’s Barber shop upper Peynier Street.
Also from 6:00 am, Threes a Crowd and Gravity Sound Hole will perform near the National Printing Corporation on Jeremie Street. In Soufriere, the band “A Family Affair” will stage a 2 hour presentation at the Soufriere Market. This is sponsored by SMJ Beverages. In Vieux Fort, Hanco Harmonites Steel Orchestra will perform at the Julien’s Shopping Mall in Vieux Fort. This presentation is sponsored by Consolidated Foods Limited.
On the early morning of St Cecilia Day, Sunday 22nd November, members of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Band will serenade through the Castries community, while the CDF will host Church services for Musicians at the Mon Repos and the Babonneau Catholic Churches. These Services will be followed by brunch and performances by Eastern Folk Band, Breeze Fevrier and Mamay Lacay respectively. |
