Wednesday, May 13, 2009 – The deterioration of public health buildings on the island has always raised concerns, but Health Minister Honourable Dr. Keith Mondesir believes that the installation of a well coordinated maintenance department within the ministry will help to remedy the situation.
Dr. Mondesir noted that the maintenance department will certainly harmonize the services provided by the maintenance personnel employed by the Ministry, who have been functioning without an organized structure.
“Everyone was quite aware of the pressures we got about the Golden Hope Hospital. Eighty percent of the problems with the Golden Hope Hospital was as a result of a lack of maintenance. With the new thrust on centralizing maintenance and putting a proper maintenance department together, we should see better results,” Dr. Mondesir said.
The Health Minister said a big chunk of his ministry’s capital budget is utilized for maintaining infrastructure. |
