Wednesday, March 18, 2009 – Food vendors wishing to provide services for the up coming CARIFTA Games were targeted for support to enhance their standards of operation. Toward this end, a one-day workshop for potential food vendors was held today March 18, 2009 at the Vieux- Fort Town Hall from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

As preparations for the Games continue at the George Odlum National Stadium in Vieux-Fort, the quality of food standards is one of the major priority areas under consideration. It is for this reason that the Local Organising Committee for the Games has partnered with the Ministry of Health, Wellness Family Affairs, National Mobilisation, Human Services and Gender Relations to organize this workshop.

It is anticipated that with adequate training, vendors will demonstrate an appreciation for improved food quality and as a consequence, upgrade their standards in vending to the consuming public.

The Southern Division of the Department of Environmental Health is adamant that only persons who have received organized training will qualify to offer vending services at the CARIFTA Games.
