Wednesday, 10 June 2009 – The Constitutional Reform Commission (CRC) has been engaged in meeting with and receiving recommendations from all the organs and functionaries established under the Saint Lucia Constitution Order, 1978. This is coming on the heels of the CRC’s successful hosting oral presentations from organizations and members of the public recently.

Participating partners include Governor General Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, Speaker of the House of Assembly Hon. Rosemary Husband Mathurin, and Leader of the Opposition Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony.  Also involved in the discussion are the Electoral and Boundaries Commission, the Integrity Commission, Chief Electoral Officer, the Ombudsman, and Service Commissions.

The reform train is now said to be moving on expanding the opportunity for every St. Lucian to raise his/her voice by way of contributing to the ongoing dialogue on constitution reform.

The Commission will be holding its final round of oral presentations in the communities of Laborie, Soufriere, and Castries from 29th June – 1st July 2009.  Members of the public and all organizations throughout Saint Lucia are invited to attend the oral hearings and make presentations on recommendations toward reform of the Saint Lucian Constitution.

The Commission will also in the month of July reach out to the Saint Lucian community in the diaspora with visits planned to Barbados, Martinique, Cayenne, St. Croix, New York, Washington, Toronto, Ottawa, and London.
