Tuesday, July 7, 2009 – Out of three thousand one hundred and two candidates who wrote the 2009 Common Entrance Examinations, two thousand nine hundred and eighty-three candidates have been assigned to the island’s twenty-three secondary schools.
The remaining one hundred and nineteen candidates were unassigned, because their average composite scores did not fall within the range of scores for the secondary school of their choice
The scores of the eleven top performers comprising nine females and two males, range from 95% to 92.33%.
Renita Shivnauth from the Dame Pearlette Louisy Primary is the top performer in the 2009 Common Entrance Examinations, with a score of 95%, earning her a place at the St. Joseph’s Convent.
Information coming out of the Ministry of Education indicates that the national mean in this year’s examinations was 57.04%, an increase of 4.23%compared to 2008.
Of the students assigned to secondary schools, 49% are females and 51% are males. Females attained a mean of over 50% in all components, while the mean obtained by the males in the general paper and Mathematics was over 50%.
Students were tested in three areas namely, Mathematics, English Language and General Paper. Among the public primary schools the Des Barras Combined topped the 2009 Common Entrance Examinations while the Montessori Centre came first among the private primary schools. |
