Wednesday, July 15, 2009 – The beauty and wellness sector for the first time, will subscribe to an overall representative body which will embrace hair dressers, barbers and body art specialists among others.
The impetus for the formation of the organization was supported by the Small Enterprises Development Unit (SEDU), within the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Consumer Affairs in the ministry's continuing bid to formalize micro and small businesses on island.
Business Development Officer of SEDU Rocelyn St. Hill Howell, says the ministry in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Coalition of Services Incorporated, conducted a well received one day sensitization workshop for beauty and wellness practitioners on Monday, July 13.
“The full name of the association has not been well established as yet, but it is centered around the hair, beauty and spa persons. In fact the association has done some preliminary work in terms of developing by-laws, establishing best practices, internal procedure, code of ethics and so on. The work is still in the formative stages. The intention is to build a membership so that the work of the association can move forward.”
Ms. Howell says ministry commends the tremendous commitment displayed by the Saint Lucia Coalition of Service Incorporated.
“In fact, the administrative manager for the Saint Lucia Coalition of Services, Ms. Yvonne Agard has been instrumental in working with the Association towards developing the different organizational processes, and procedures, and the laws supporting them.”
The ministry, she says, views the organization of the beauty and wellness practitioners into an Association as commendable and overdue. |
