Monday, February 09, 2009 – As part of the celebrations for Saint Lucia’s 30th Independence Anniversary, the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority has planned a day dedicated to embracing the island’s history and culture.

SLASPA, in collaboration with the National Independence Planning Committee, will host the Desmond Skeete Animation Center Day, and a Night of The Arts, on February 24, 2009, at La Place Carenage.

Coordinator of the National Independence Exhibition Committee, Giovanni St. Omer said: “Use the events of that day as a platform for educating young people on our country’s history through the animation centre and our country’s culture through these artistes; listen to what they have to say. What we are doing is inviting young artistes to actually listen and learn from these greats and appreciate where they have come from and what they expect of us in the future. We are very proud to have created this collaboration with the SLASPA organization.”

Embracing culture as a part of a country’s development, St. Omer said, is essential to the growth of a people.

SLASPA’s Director of Corporate Affairs and Administration, Ben Emmanuel, said SLASPA is extremely delighted to contribute to the celebration of another milestone in the island’s independence.

“That is why the opportunity not only to promote and celebrate the Desmond Skeete Animation Centre, but also to offer La Place Carenage as the venue to host two very important functions, is for us at SLASPA extremely delightful and we are very proud to be a part of this celebration,” said Emmanuel

On February 24, patrons will receive a 50% discount on the regular admission to the Animation Center. Additionally, there is a month long special for students, who will pay three dollars to view the spectacle.
