Message from the Secretary General of the Organization of American StatesJose Miguel InsulzaOn the Occasion of the30th Anniversary of the Independence of Saint Lucia
It is with great pleasure that I extend hearty congratulations to the Government and People of Saint Lucia as you celebrate your 30th Anniversary of Independence, under the theme: “A Journey to be Proud of, A Future to Look Forward to”. This anniversary celebration marks a significant milestone, of which your country can be justly proud. It provides, moreover, a golden opportunity to contemplate the challenges you have overcome, and to reflect on the many achievements of your country over the past 30 years. I have fond memories of my three visits to Saint Lucia, the last of which occurred only a year ago on the last anniversary of the country’s independence, and I have witnessed this progress. Consolidation of nationhood is rarely an easy task. For small developing island states, the challenges may seem monumental in the face of the present global circumstances. However, the rich history and culture of Saint Lucia will surely offer keys to the way forward. The creativity and resilience of the people of Saint Lucia are valuable resources for achieving their collective goal, and investments in human development made over the years by visionary leaders will surely stand the country in good position for pursuing a bright future. Moreover concerted action and continued collaboration with your OECS and CARICOM partners will undoubtedly be valuable assets in navigating uncharted waters in the future. On behalf of the Organization of American States and the staff of the General Secretariat, I extend sincere greetings and best wishes on this auspicious Anniversary occasion and renew our total commitment to the Government and people of Saint Lucia. May you be divinely guided in the pursuit of social and economic development, democratic consolidation, and the continued enrichment and well-being of the lives of all the people of Saint Lucia. |
