Friday, December 18, 2009 - Today in Copenhagen, Prime Minister Stephenson King, who is the lead speaker for sustainable development on the quasi cabinet of CARICOM signed the Small Island Developing States Sustainable Energy Initiative (SIDS Dock) on behalf of Saint Lucia.

SIDS Dock is being jointly coordinated by the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (5 C.’s) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environmental Programme (SPREP).  It is an institutional mechanism that will facilitate the development of a clean energy economy within the Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

In his remarks the Prime Minister noted that the ultimate goal of SIDS Dock, to increase energy efficiency was consistent with Saint Lucia’s intention to become a sustainable energy demonstration country.

The Prime Minister also remarked that “the successful implementation of the SIDS Dock sustainable energy demonstration initiative, can eventually lead to substantial savings in Saint Lucia’s expenditure of fossil fuel for energy.”
