Tuesday,  December 1, 2009  Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Senator the Honourable Allan Chastanet, says he is excited about the prospects of Saint Lucia being featured on the popular reality TV show “The Bachelor’’ which airs on ABC.

The crew and cast were recently in Saint Lucia shooting two episodes over a two-week period.

The episodes will feature many sights and sounds of Saint Lucia particularly the Sulphur Springs and the Pitons.

Minister Chastanet says, Saint Lucia is set to gain tremendously from the international exposure of being featured on “The Bachelor”.

“The Bachelor is one of the top shows on ABC—one of the top networks in the United States. Last year, the show had over two million viewers, and if we begin to do the maths, one percent of twenty million is two hundred thousand considering that last year we only had one hundred thousand visitors from the US. I think the timing of this show could not be better,” Chastanet said.

Starting in February 2010, Saint Lucia will be featured on two two-hour episodes on “The Bachelor”.

The show’s executive director Martin Hilton, says having been voted the number one honeymooning destination in the world, for  four consecutive times, Saint Lucia is the ideal location to shoot the episodes.

“Our show is all about romance and the mystical magic of being in a relationship—that is what Saint Lucia is for me. You have the pitons, beautiful oceans, and it is great for our show, and for people to come here and fall in love as they would on our show. Saint Lucia is probably one of the most romantic places that I have personally been to, and I have travelled a lot. It is also probably the most romantic place that “The Bachelor” has shot, and we have shot all around the world like New Zealand, Canada and Hawaii. I think this is probably one of the best places to be,” Hilton said.

The tourism minister says being featured on the ABC show, Saint Lucia is expected to benefit from an increase in the number of US visitors to the island.
