Friday, December 11, 2009 –  The government of Israel has extended its support to the government and people of Saint Lucia for the reconstruction of St. Jude Hospital.

Israeli Ambassador to St. Lucia, His Excellency Amos Radian says his government thought it necessary to join the rest of the international community efforts to assist in the restoration of  the medical institution amidst the current global economic climate.

“We were deeply moved to hear about the tragedy of St. Jude Hospital, and although Israel is not a donor country, we have decided to make a small contribution for the quick rebuilding of the St. Jude Hospital for the benefit of the people of Saint Lucia,” the Israeli ambassador said.

Speaking at the cheque presentation, acting prime minister Honourable Lenard Montoute said the government of Saint Lucia  is deeply heartened by the wealth of support received from both the public and private sector thus far. He encouraged all nationals to participate in  the St. Jude Hospital fund raising activities when scheduled.

“I am sure that the people especially out  of the south, will be very grateful for this contribution which you said is small but will go a long way in assisting in the expeditious rebuilding of the hospital,” Montoute said.

The governments of Israel and Saint Lucia established diplomatic relations in 1979, and have since maintained strong, cordial and mutually beneficial ties.
