Wednesday, December 2, 2009 – The Canadian government has donated two hundred and forty-six thousand dollars towards the St. Jude rehabilitation project . The cheque was handed to Prime Minister Hon. Stephenson King, by the Canadian non-resident High Commissioner to the OECS, Her Excellency Ruth Archibald, on Wednesday.
Prime Minister King says the two countries have shared lots of fond memories over the years.
“The signature of the maple leaf is all over Saint Lucia, be it the Roseau Dam, the Hewanorra International Airport, and symbolically, the red and white uniforms of the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School, which was a great gift from the government and people of Canada. We see this presentation this morning, as a continuation of the profound relationship between the government and people of Canada and the government and people of Saint Lucia,” the prime minister said.
The donation is intended for the purchase of surgical equipment to be used at the St. Jude Hospital's temporary location.
The prime minister says, the St. Jude hospital is expected to be reconstructed within the next two years. He says the facility will be built to meet the needs of the people not only in the south, but will augment the national health needs of Saint Lucia. |
