Monday, December 7, 2009 – Executive Director of the Cultural Development
Foundation (CDF), Mr. Kennedy “Boots” Samuel says this year's Festival of Carols
was a huge success. The event which was hosted on Sunday at the St.
Peter’s Catholic Church in Dennery, featured musical renditions from several
community and church choirs, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Band and the Saint
Lucia School of music.
“This was such a lovely evening. The Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) will
continue to focus on the beauty that we have here in Saint Lucia. We are a
beautiful and talented people, so the CDF will continue showcasing those good
things, even if we have to fight but there will be no giving up—no retreat no
surrender. We will uncover the beauty of our people and let Saint Lucians be
proud of who we are and what we have; we have a lot in this country,” Samuel
remarked.
The Festival of Carols is held annually in commemoration of the festive
Christmas season.
Minister for Labour, Information and Broadcasting Honourable Edmund Estaphane
who is also the Parliamentary Representative for Dennery South, commended the
CDF for its efforts towards ensuring that the Festival of Carols is held in a
different location annually, thus increasing participation from a wider cross
section of society.
Minister Estephane also called on all Saint Lucians to honour and respect the
true meaning of Christmas.
“Christmas is more than a time of music and merriment. It is a season for
mediation, meditation and miracles. It is more than a time for carols and candy;
it is a season for dedication, reflection and decision making. It is for this
reason that we are happy that this year's Festival of Carols is taking place in
the village of Dennery,” Estephane said.
The 2009 Festival of Carols was held under the distinguish patronage of the
Governor General, Her Excellency, Dame Pearlette Louisy.
