Tuesday, August 4, 2009 – As the Government of Saint Lucia continues to work towards having Saint Lucia resilient to disasters, the Government of Saint Lucia shall take part in the Caribbean Disaster Management Phase II [CADM II] in collaboration with the Government of Japan and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency [CDERA].
The project started in February 2009 and shall run for three years and focus on empowering communities in the monitoring and mitigating of floods. The targeted community in Saint Lucia is Bois d'Orange. Once the methodology of the project starts to have positive effects the lessons learnt will be shared with other flood prone communities.
During the floods of October 2008 along with many communities across Saint Lucia the community of Bois d'Orange suffered significantly.
On 14th August, 2009 members of the Gros Islet Disaster Committee together with the Project Steering Committee and local consultant AGRICO Ltd. shall be in the Bois d'Orange area soliciting the thoughts of community members on the recent floods and past flood events.
The NEMO Secretariat is seeking the cooperation of everyone as we take this first step to address flooding concerns in Saint Lucia.
