Wednesday, August 5, 2009 The Folk Research Centre (FRC), has begun preparations for the hosting of Jounen Kweyol 2009. In an interview with the GIS, Executive Director of the FRC, Mr Kentry Jn. Pierre noted, preparations for the cultural spectacle are well advanced, with two southern communities already being selected as host venues.
Mr. Jn. Pierre says organisers will meet this week to select the two other communities to host Jounen Kweyol 2009.
At a meeting we selected the communities of Soufriere and Vieux-Fort to host Jounen Kweyol this year. We are still to finalise the selection of the other two communities. Hopefully we will select the four host communities by the end of this week. Mr. Jn. Pierre added.
Jounen Kweyol brings a grand climax to a month of activities in celebration of Kweyol Heritage Month in October. Mr. Jn. Pierre says organisers are placing emphasis on showcasing the island's rich culture at Jounen Kweyol 2009.
As always, people can expect the best, noting of course that the focus is not only on Jounen Kweyol but on Kweyol Heritage month as well, so the public should expect a full programme of activities throughout the month of October, said the FRC's Executive Director.
Although Jounen Kweyol is celebrated in every nook and cranny around the island, the cultural spectacle is celebrated on the national level in four communities annually. |
