Thursday, April 23, 2009 – Students of the island’s top secondary school for boys will benefit from the continued human development efforts of the embassy of the Republic of China on Taiwan.
The Taiwanese Embassy has allocated approximately two hundred thousand Eastern Caribbean dollars to Saint Mary’s College for the completion of a new Information Technology laboratory which is expected to be completed by the beginning of the next school year.
The school’s Principal, Rohan Seon said it has been near impossible to facilitate the use of the school’s existing computer lab by all the students.
“I just want to indicate that it has come largely through the intervention of the Prime Minister himself- who is not working in his capacity as Prime Minister, but as a representative of this part of Castries. He’s always found it possible to make his presence felt at Saint Mary’s and we certainly appreciate this contribution to the school. Our IT program at Saint Mary’s College has been severely hindered by the fact that we have a lab of about 21 computers for about 700 students,” said Seon.
Prime Minister Honourable Stephenson King says the initiative is necessary to maintain the standard of excellence for which the school is known. “The original project which was designed for 26 computers was enhanced to facilitate 45 computers to replace the existing ones that may go out of use and out of commission in the not too distant future,” said the Prime Minister.
Taiwanese Ambassador to Saint Lucia, His Excellency Tom Chou expressed his country’s continued dedication to aid with human, social, and economic development in Saint Lucia. |
