Thursday, April 30, 2009 – In the face of current gloomy economic conditions worldwide, the Saint Lucia Tourist Board today welcomed news of a new flight into the island from the award-winning JetBlue Airways.
Beginning October 15th, 2009, JetBlue Airways will serve Saint Lucia’s Hewanorra International Airport with three weekly flights out of New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. Seats are expected to go on sale as of June this year at http://www.jetblue.com/
Saint Lucia is one of 50 international destinations throughout North, South and Central America benefiting from Jet Blue’s Service. According to Tourism Minister Allen Chastanet, Saint Lucia is very excited about the introduction of this new JetBlue service from the largest market in the United States. Senator Chastanet remarks that JetBlue is ‘rapidly becoming a major player in the US airline industry and has great plans for the Caribbean.’ He adds that ‘we are happy to be one of the first destinations on the Eastern Caribbean to be served by JetBlue’. Jamaica and Barbados are the other two islands who will welcome this new service in the fall.
SLTB Director Louis Lewis ‘welcomes this new flight coming out of an important source market which will provide the capacity to complement our marketing efforts. The US tri-state area, he says, accounts for more than 50% of our US arrivals. This is certainly good news for us at a time when the projections for the fall seem less than encouraging.’
The airline will operate its Saint Lucia service with spacious 150-seat Airbus A320 aircraft, which offers travelers all of the amenities for which JetBlue has become revered: complimentary seatback television programming, comfortable leather seats, the most legroom in coach of any US airline, unlimited free snacks and industry-leading customer service.
The Saint Lucia Tourist Board is proud to announce that JetBlue Airways’ is just one of many other international airlines that will be commencing airlift into Saint Lucia this year.
