Thursday,  April 23, 2009 –  The embassy of the Republic of China on Taiwan is moving forward with its mandate to promote holistic development of Saint Lucia’s resources.

Recently, the embassy extended support to the Castries North Development Council.

“In our community projects in Castries North this time, we are implementing about twenty-four projects. All together the total amount is roughly EC$560,000. The main content of the project covers the IT lab, drainage, paths, retaining walls, and sport facilities,” said Taiwanese Ambassdor to Saint Lucia, His Excellency Tom Chou.

The goal of the aid provided, the Ambassador said, is two fold—the first being education, and the second, the quality of life in the local communities.

This is a clear indication, Prime Minister Honourable Stephenson King said, that the basis upon which the agreement between the two countries was signed is to create  a better environment for Saint Lucians.

“Ever since we established diplomatic relations with the Republic of China on Taiwan in 2007, we have seen a demonstration of commitment to social development, community development, and human development in this country. We have seen a commitment to grass roots projects,”said the Prime Minister.

Education and community development, he continued are integral to strong nation building, and the Taiwanese Embassy has made meaningful contributions in these areas.
