Thursday, September 26, 2008 - Seven well deserving students were recognized by SLASPA at a ceremony held on Monday September 22, 2008 at SLASPA’s Conference Room. Three of these students were the 2003 scholarship recipients who all preformed remarkably well at the 2008 CXC Examinations and the remaining four students performed extraordinarily well at the Common Entrance Examinations, all of whom are children of staff members of SLASPA. The students were awarded with plaques and certificates of excellence in recognition of their outstanding performance at the CXC and Common Entrance Examinations.
Nycole Joseph–daughter of Operations Manager Nicholas Joseph, Jamilla Marcellin–daughter of Thomas Marcellin, Rigger, and Kishon Paul–daughter of Camillas and Lucretia Alexander, Port Police. All three students now attend the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, Division of Arts, Science and General Studies (DASGS).
“Investing in the future of our youth is one way we're building sustainable communities. By helping our young people reach their goals in education, they will in turn leave a lasting impression on society,” said Daniella Martelly, Financial Controller of SLASPA, as she addressed recipients at a ceremony held at SLASPA’s headquarters.
Speaking on behalf of the outgoing Scholarship awardees, Nycole Joseph expressed her gratitude to SLASPA for providing the opportunity to herself and others with scholarships throughout their tenure at Secondary School. She also referred to SLASPA’s commitment to award hardworking students as an incentive to become more assiduous and disciplined and commended SLASPA for their long-term commitment to the development of the nation's youth.
This year’s Common Entrance Examination scholarship awardees are Terri Willie–daughter of Natacha Charles, Ports Police, Diquan Popo–son of Cuthbert Popo, Ports Police, Gabrielle Elie– daughter of Walter Elie Ports Police and Keville Placide–son of Michael Placide also from the Ports Police Division.
The Scholarship Program allows SLASPA to award four scholarships each year to children of SLASPA’s staff who performed remarkably well at the Common Entrance Examination. The students’ performance is consistently monitored by SLASPA’s Human Resource Department throughout the 5 years, and assistance given when needed. |
