Tuesday, September 23, 2008 – Prime Minister Honourable Stephenson King expressed optimism in future OAS initiatives as Mrs. Ann-Marie Blackman took up her new position as OAS Representative to the OECS. Mrs. Blackman, who is a native of Barbados, presented her Letters of Introduction to Prime Minister Hon. Stephenson King at his official residence on Friday September 19, 2008.
The Prime Minister said he looks forward to Mrs. Blackman building on the OAS-assisted projects in Saint Lucia, such as Electoral Reform and Civil Registry Projects.
“The Civil Registry is an area that we have discussed with your predecessor and your Director General. We discussed the possibility of providing assistance in that area which is linked into the whole registration system in the country,” said Prime Minister King.
Having presented her letters of introduction, Mrs Blackman said, she is anxious to get down to business. She noted the interest of Saint Lucians in tertiary education and promised that her office will continue to make scholarships available to the country.
“The headquarters in Washington is very keen in streamlining and to make more effective the operations of the office. There are efforts underway to ensure that we deliver services and that we have an effective nexus between member states and the headquarters in Washington, especially within the context of globalization,” the new OAS Representative said.
Mrs. Blackman, who will be based at the OAS office at Vigie, replaces Mr. Paul Spencer. |
