“lingering concerns by Caribbean academics and Civil Society groups”

Contact:  Rose Marie Harris

Wednesday, 10 September 2008 –  Prime Minister Honourable Stephenson King is among Heads of Government attending a one day meeting to discuss the Economic Partnership Agreement EPA, Wednesday September 9th 2008, in Barbados.

The first of these meetings will be the Fourteenth Special Meeting of the conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) scheduled to take place in the morning while  the Third Special Meeting of the Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Forum (CARIFORUM) will take place in the afternoon.

The EPA was initiated last December by CARIFORUM and the European Union and provides for a new trading arrangement between the two parties to replace the Contonou Agreement which governed trade and aid relationships between Europe and the ACP Group of countries.   The leaders will discuss some lingering concerns by Caribbean academics and other civil groups in regard to the EPA as well as procedures for signing the document.

Prime Minister King will return home tomorrow Thursday September 11th, 2008.
