Wednesday, October 8, 2008 – Saint Lucia is set to host the Caribbean's premier annual tourism sales and marketing event to be held in January 2009.
The event, Caribbean Marketplace, will see between 1,800 and 2000 delegates in Saint Lucia over a three to four-day period. Officials are predicting far reaching and long lasting benefits to the island, and are engaging both public and private support in promoting Caribbean Marketplace.
Director General and CEO of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Alec Sanguinetti underlined the event's importance: “It is a wonderful opportunity for St. Lucia to showcase itself. This is a very important event not just for St. Lucia but for the Caribbean.”
Interest in Saint Lucia's tourism development plans, as well as the novelty of the event being hosted in the Eastern Caribbean, officials said, has already produced record breaking early registration.
President of the Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association, Colin Hunte has expressed his enthusiasm. “Hosting Caribbean Marketplace in January next year comes at an opportune time to showcase the island's exciting, diverse, and quality existing hotel/product mix, exciting new developments and our stunningly beautiful island to the world—this is a global initiative.
Caribbean Marketplace is the most important annual sales and marketing event on the Caribbean Tourism Organization's calendar.” Caribbean Marketplace is produced and administrated by the CHTA, and will be hosted locally by the Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association. The annual event is endorsed by the Caribbean Tourism Association (CTO) as the official marketplace of the Caribbean region. |
