Wednesday,  October 8, 2008 –  The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS) will celebrate this year’s World Standards Day by presenting its new slogan and website at an official press launch on Tuesday, October 14 at its headquarters in Bisee. The international theme for World Standards Day is ‘Intelligent and sustainable buildings’, however the focus of the celebration will be SLBS’s new slogan which is ‘SLBS…Making quality and standards our way of life’.

The new slogan represents the SLBS’s drive towards making and promoting standards as an integral part of creating a quality culture in Saint Lucia. The new slogan also reflects the SLBS’s desire for standards and quality to become synonymous with being Saint Lucian and with how we conduct our affairs. The slogan draws attention to the fact that the Bureau not only provides expertise in standardization matters, it also has considerable experience and competence in quality improvement tools which may be used not just in business but in any sphere of national development. The new website (www.slbs.org.lc) promises to be a lively and solid source of information for the public on the SLBS including its products and services, and on all matters pertaining to standardization. It will also be a valuable resource and research tool for anyone interested in finding out more about the vital role that standards play in the social and economic life of the island.

Another highlight of SLBS’s celebration of World Standards Day this year is its inaugural Secondary Schools Oratorical Competition which is set for Wednesday, October 22 at the NIC Conference Centre. The aim of the competition is to improve the standard of the linguistic and verbal skills of the students while promoting the role and value of standards to society. The topic for the competition is, ‘A society without standards is a society without direction’. SLBS will also be hosting a lunchtime seminar on Wednesday, October 15 for the construction sector in recognition of the focus on buildings for this year’s international observance of World Standards Day.
