Thursday,  October 9, 2008 – St. Lucia's Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Senator Allen Chastanet, has congratulated the Jamaican government on the appointment of veteran airline industry executive Bruce Nobles as President and CEO of Air Jamaica.

The Senator describes the decision to return Nobles to the helm of the airline as "critically important" given his vast experience in the global airline sector and particularly for his "excellent track record of piloting the regional carrier" during a period when the airline was run by Jamaican tourism executive Gordon "Butch" Stewart. Nobles previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Air Jamaica from June 2002 to March 2003.

"In St. Lucia, we are very pleased with his  appointment, especially given today's global aviation challenges and in particular the difficulty we in the Caribbean are experiencing in securing reliable and affordable air services from all markets," said Senator Chastanet, himself a former Air Jamaica Vice President who reported to Nobles.

Senator Chastanet predicted Nobles will "hit the road running" to help return Air Jamaica to its better days and offered St. Lucia's continued support to the airline's executive team.

Bruce Nobles is a 40 year veteran of the transportation industry, and is credited with leading the successful restructuring of Hawaiian Airlines, developing and introducing operations for the Pan Am Shuttle, and for creating and implementing operations for the Trump Shuttle. Having held executive positions at Continental Airlines, Republic Airlines and American Airlines, Nobles is recognised as a leader in the aviation industry, and widely regarded as an authority on launching and establishing aviation products in the marketplace.

Nobles returns to Air Jamaica from the Renwick Company, a Dallas-based aviation and transportation consulting company, and starts work with Air Jamaica on Monday, October 13.
