Thursday, November 27, 2008 - The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS) continues its drive to promote standards and quality throughout the society by hosting a two-day training workshop in the latest version of the ISO 9001 standard which was just released by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The workshop entitled Managing for Success—Training in a Quality Management System Based on the ISO 9000 Series, was held this Wednesday and Thursday at the SLBS head office. It targeted supervisors, managers and quality personnel from both the island’s public and private sector. The workshop was facilitated by SLBS personnel trained in the requirements of the ISO 9001 standard.
ISO 9001:2008 is the international standard for quality management systems which delves into the requirements for any business or organization seeking to improve its management practices. It has also been described as a vital business improvement tool for any organisation wishing to meet and exceed its objectives. The close to twenty participants included representatives from the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA), Coconut Growers Association, Paradise Water, Ministry of Trade and Victoria Hospital. The participants described the workshop as educational, challenging and extremely beneficial. They also said that they would be implementing the ISO standard in their respective organizations as part of their efforts to improve their operations and to satisfy the needs of their customers and clients.
The SLBS plans to offer this training workshop to other sectors in the coming new year as part of its effort to live up to its new slogan, SLBS…Making quality and standards our way of life. Anyone interested in acquiring this updated version of the ISO 9001 standard may contact the SLBS at 453-0049 or 456-0546/0102. |
