Monday, November 24, 2008 – The momentum leading to celebrations marking Saint Lucia’s 30th Independence Anniversary is expected to involve all the key sections of the community including the manufacturing sector.

To this end the Ministry of Agriculture is spearheading the organization of the National Independence Exhibition in partnership with the Ministry of Trade, among other agencies, in hosting the exhibition to be held at the George Odlum Stadium from the 15th to the 23rd, February, 2009.

Marketing specialist with the Ministry of Trade Fercinta Louisy, said the Ministry of Trade is on board and is signalling to all local manufactures to be part of the auspicious event.

“The Ministry of Trade would like to invite local manufacturers and service providers interested in participating in the grand event, to contact its offices at 468 4212 / 468 4218. Persons who call our offices will get more information on the exhibition as well as registration forms. There is a deadline for registration—Friday 28th of November; we are encouraging as many people as possible to participate in the event,” she said.

The ministry, she said, will also utilize the exhibition as a fitting platform for the revamping of the “Buy Local Campaign”.

“We’re hoping of course, that the event will provide an opportunity for local manufactures and service providers to promote their products and meet directly with the public to get feedback on their products. It’s also an opportunity for the ministry to support our own efforts to revamp the Buy Local Campaign.  And so we invite as many people as possible—persons with new products and persons with existing products—to participate in the event and take full advantage of the marketing opportunities that will be provided,” she said.

The ministry is expecting a minimum of 50 participants in what is expected to be a major showcase of locally produced products.
