Friday,  November 28, 2008 –  The Ministry of Labour hereby exhorts all persons working without the required work permits to regularize their employment status on the island.

According to Section 3 subsection 3 of the Foreign Nationals and Employment Citizens (Employment) Act, Chapter 16.13 of the revised laws of Saint Lucia 2001, a person shall not have in his or her employment in Saint Lucia a foreign national or a commonwealth citizen without there being in force a valid work permit in relation to that employment.

The law indicates that both the employer as well as his/her employee who works without a permit commits an offence and are liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding five thousand dollars ($5000.00).

For additional information on this matter please contact the Ministry of Labour at Telephone number (758) 468-2710/2707/3186.
