Tuesday, May 13, 2008 – St. Lucia's Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy wants to see Technical and Scientific Cooperation Agreement between St. Lucia and the Republic of Columbia strengthened. The Governor General expressed those sentiments on Tuesday May 13,2008, during the presentation of credentials, of newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Columbia to St. Lucia, Ambassador Ventura Diaz-Mejia.
The Technical and Scientific Cooperation Agreement, was signed in 1981, two years after the two countries established diplomatic relations. “I want to take this opportunity to invite you to revisit and revive its provision so that our two countries have a structure at the bilateral level within which we can work together for the good of both our interest”, Dame Pearlette said . “ This I am sure will strengthen our collaboration within the fora of the Association of Caribbean States and the Organization of American States, as well as our relations as members of these two hemispheric groups with other international bodies.
Ambassador Diaz assured that the government of Columbia will make every possible effort to give the St. Lucian government the needed support in vital areas, with the intention of broadening the present scope.
“We must work together in common aspects that can be useful for the growth of our people who certainly are hoping a lot of their leaders. Please Your Excellency, receive the most cordial and sincere greetings from President, Dr. Alvaro Uribe Velez and the Columbian people and be sure that the loyalty, respect and sincerity will remain principles and essential values of our cordial relations,” Ambassador Diaz added.
Dr. Diaz was born on December 31,1943. A graduate of Universidad Libre, in Barranquilla he holds a degree in law and journalism.
