Wednesday, March 12, 2008 – Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, External Affairs, Home Affairs and National Security, Hon. Stephenson King met Tuesday March 11, with the Central Executive of the Civil Service Association (CSA), under the leadership of its president Joseph Dosserie.
The parties discussed a number of pertinent matters. The impasse between the Saint Lucia Banana Corporation (SLBC) where over 50 workers have been given letters of termination, as a result of a decision by the Windward Islands Banana Development Exporting Company (WIBDECO) to discontinue purchase of Fair Trade bananas, was high on the agenda.
The prime minister said attempts had already been made to invite the chief executive of WIBDECO and the chairman of the SLBC to discuss the matter.
Also discussed were matters relating to negotiations for a new collective agreement, general operations of the CSA, issues specific to certain departments, rising prices and its implications for CSA members, and the new Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the Caribbean and the European Union, (EU).
The parties expressed a desire to conclude the current round of negotiations shortly.
They also agreed to work together to enhance productivity and efficiency in the service, and generally, to improve the image of the civil service. |
