Friday, 06 June 2008 – The Honourable Rufus Bousquet was sworn-in as Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce, Investment and Consumer Affairs Friday morning, returning him to Cabinet. The new minister, who is also the Parliamentary Representative for Choiseul, says he is ready to get on with the business of the country.
Along with Prime Minister Honourable Stephenson King, Mr. Bousquet has over two decades of political experience under his belt. This was the second time the minister took the Oath of Office since the UWP government was returned into office in December of 2006.
The seasoned politician says he is refreshed, energized and most eager to settle into his new responsibilities as Minister for Trade.
“I have no time to look back, to incriminate or discriminate or really hold any grudges or to have any ill will towards anybody. I'm not that sort of person. The person I am really about is getting the job done and to prove to the people of Saint Lucia that the prime minister's gracious invitation to me is well deserved,” said Bousquet.
Minister Bousquet rejected the notion that the recent impasse in government has caused much damage. He says his return to the Honourable Stephenson King Cabinet was executed with the blessings of his colleagues.
“The government is strong. The government has gone through a learning process. It has had to deal with a tremendous amount of difficulties, but I believe we have pretty much a blank sheet now, and we can start to write this new chapter in the history of the government of the United Workers party,” he told reporters following his swearing-in ceremony at Government House.
Mr. Bousquet’s swearing-in ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Stephenson King, government colleagues and several of his Choiseul constituents. |
