Friday, 13 June 2008 – The Office of Private Sector Relations (OPSR) launched the much publicised Benchmarking Tool Programme for the business sector. The project, which came off at the Sandals Grande this week, will be implemented in partnership with the Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association and the Saint Lucia Manufacturers Association.
Director of the OPSR Jacqueline Emmanuel says the organisation’s key objective is to stir the interests of the target sectors to participate in this initiative.
“At the OPSR, we take pleasure in assisting the private sector in enhancing its competitiveness, so our national economy can grow and become stronger. With that kind of support the economy will become better structured, diversified, productive and balanced. We have the privilege of working with individual businesses with the business associations, and government agencies to accomplish these goals,” the OPSR head said.
Ms. Emmanuel said the Benchmarking Tool Project is testimony to the strong collaboration among the sectors. The launch was the culmination of over one year of work on the programme.
“I hasten to assure you that these benchmarking projects are fully compatible with the stated national development policies of the pertinent sectors. For example, the Saint Lucia National Export Strategy highlights manufacturing among the ten priority sectors for development. In the same vein, the need to maintain the growth trend in tourism and to continually accelerate growth in tourism is a constant economic quest of our government,” she added.
Both sectors, she said, already display significant international competitiveness and advantages, and as such, the benchmarking project will assist in accelerating growth in those sectors as well in the weaker ones. |
