Thursday, June 19, 2008 – The Ministry of Trade, in collaboration with the CARICOM Secretariat's CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) Unit, recently undertook a CSME country mission on the island, injecting new life in the country’s CSME campaign.
Part of the recent mission involved the staging of a national CSME sensitization seminar on Friday June 20th at the Bay Gardens Inn, targeted primarily at private and public sector representatives.
Commerce and Industry Officer Lisa Louis Philip said the sensitization seminar, facilitated by the CSME unit’s officers, addressed a range of issues from competing to making a living in the CSME.
The seminar was followed by the resumption of the CSME road show, on Saturday June 21st, in the town of Gros-Islet. That activity was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Transformation.
“A number of elements were touched on including procedures for establishing a business in Saint Lucia, or throughout the other CARICOM member states. We have gone through Anse-La Raye, Canaries right through to Mon- Repos, and we are now focusing on the north of the country, including the Castries basin. We have had road shows so far in La Guerre-Babonneau, and Balata”, she said.
The road show for the first time carried an element of entertainment, provided by a number of local calypsonians. The public is being encouraged to embrace the opportunity to be informed on the CSME, when the campaign rolls into their communities in the near future. |
