Monday, July 14, 2008 – Officials of the Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association thinks that with such a high level of unemployment within its membership, the need for financial assistance has become even more crucial. It is estimated that only one out of every hundred blind persons, between the ages of eighteen and thirty, is employed.
Last week the Association called on the public to give generously through its latest fund raising effort dubbed the Mail Appeal. The association has been equally open in disclosing intended plans for the use of the much needed resources. Project, Resource Mobilization and Finance Officer Debra McLean said the non-profit organization delivers services in several categories.
“This project encompasses a whole range of services, including: preventative measures; sight restoration; the rehabilitation of adults, who are blind; and education in mainstream schools. By giving a gift you touch the life of a blind or visually impaired person and give them a start for a brighter future. Your gift or donation entitles you to a tax rebate under Cabinet approval number one of 1989, Article 56. We implore to continue lending yours hands to us,” said McLean.
The funds amassed from public assistance, via the Mail Appeal, will strengthen the association's ability to sustain those programmes. Persons are urged to check their post boxes for correspondence from the SLBWA and to give generously when they have received the mail. |
