Tuesday, July 1, 2008 – St. Lucia is mere weeks away from joining CARIFORUM counterparts to sign onto the newest trade dynamic–the European Partnership Agreement– EPA later this month.
In light of the imminent coming into force of the EPA in St. Lucia, the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Consumer Affairs and Investment is continuing to host a number of sensitization programmes in order to adequately apprise all stakeholders of the scope, context and outcome of the EPA negotiations.
Trade and Commerce Officer Lisa Philip says the Ministry will be hosting national consultations on Wednesday, 02nd and Thursday, July 03rd at the Bay Gardens Hotel. This time the focus will be on Services and Investment.
“That seminar forms part a series that are being held across the OECS region. The Hub and Spokes Project started with a seminar on the EPA's with specific reference to trading goods, held sometime in May in St. Lucia. Following the success of that past seminar, this one, on Services and Investment, will further raise the level of awareness and understanding of some of the crucial elements, provisions and areas of concern with respect to the EPA..”
Participants will be provided with the platform to discuss a number of services which have been offered by CARIFORUM in the EPA negotiation. Such services include e-commerce, financial services, professional services and maritime transport.
The sensitization seminar will be held in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat's 'Hub and Spokes” Project. |
