Monday, 28 July 2008 – Minister for Physical Planning, Housing, Urban Renewal and Local Government Honourable Richard Fredrick is reporting a smooth process of work on the housing project in Marigot. The project—which started last year, the minister says—is about seventy percent complete.
He says contractors are now awaiting the relocation of some twelve squatter dwellings from areas where houses will be built.
“As long as that is done, construction of the houses for sale will commence. We envisage that this will happen in the not too distant future. I look forward to the commencement of its implementation,” the minister said.
The National Housing Corporation, the NHC, which is overseeing the project, is also preparing to start a similar project in Anse-La-Raye. The minister says the plans for this development have already been drawn and is expecting ground works to commence in the not too distant future.
“There will be a slight diversion of the highway just after Anse-La-Raye and we envisage minimal difficulty in the implementation aspect of that project. The investors are on board and have indicated their willingness and much enthusiasm about getting involved in that project. The Anse-La-Raye housing development project is expected to be one with a difference,” he said.
Many apartments units will be built and offered to Saint Lucians for sale, through a rent-to-own facility. The ministry is currently processing applications for another housing project at Monchy. Some ninety lots are available in that development. |
