Friday, July 11, 2008 – A four-man delegation led by Minister for Trade, Industry, Commerce, Consumer Affairs and Investment, the Honourable Rufus Bousquet, leaves the island today (11th July, 2008) for Venezuela, to attend the Fifth Summit of Heads of State to discuss the Petrocaribe Initiative.
Minister Bousquet is deputizing for Prime Minister, the Honourable Stephenson King at a meeting which aims to evaluate the advances made in getting commitments from regional governments to sign on to the Petrocaribe Agreement.
Minister Bousquet has stated that his attendance at the Summit is to seek further clarification on the implications of the Petrocaribe initiative for Saint Lucia, and to arrive at a position that would be beneficial to Saint Lucia. The Minister said that in making a decision, consideration would be given to the long-standing trade relationship Saint Lucia has had with Trinidad, which has been the island’s traditional supplier of petroleum products.
The meeting which lasts over a period of two days from Saturday, July 12th to 13th will be addressed by Venezuela’s Minister for Energy and Petroleum, Rafael Ramirez, and will feature an address on Saturday, 13th July, by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. |
