Thursday, February 14, 2008 – The Organisation of American States (OAS) has made a financial contribution to the National Skills Development Centre (NSDC), for the training of marginalised youth of Saint Lucia.
OAS Representative Paul Spencer made the presentation recently to Education Minister Honourable Arsene James, under whose portfolio the NSDC falls.
“This contribution is in relation to the project Partnership in Opportunities for Employment through Technology in the Americas, what we call POETA. It seeks to provide marginalised populations with jobs, ready information and communication technology skills.” said Spencer.
In expressing his appreciation to the OAS for the second financial disbursement of the funds for the project, Education Minister Honourable Arsene James said it will go a long way in helping deprived persons to cope with the rigours of life.
“It is a memorandum of understanding between the OAS Trust of America, POETA and NSDC and it is for the training of our marginalised young people in Saint Lucia. Those persons who are deprived to train them with skills so they can fear better in today's world,” the Minister suggested.
The NSDC is expected to train at least 150 beneficiaries in the country over the next year. The OAS Trust of the Americas funds will be used to establish training facilities and to procure computer equipment and supplies. |
