Tuesday, December 16, 2008 – The Choiseul Secondary School has emerged as winner of the first ever Districts Five, Six and Seven Secondary Schools’ Tourism Debating Competition, organised by the Southern Tourism Development Corporation—STDC.
The school prevailed over rivals Vieux fort Comprehensive Secondary Campus A, at the finals, which was held at the Spartans University of Health Sciences on Thursday, December 11th, 2008. Choiseul Secondary won by a margin of 33, totalling 359 points, compared to Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary, Campus B, which compiled 326 points.
The finals of the competition generated exciting and spirited debate from both teams, as they sought to capture the first prize. Ayodele Ellevic of the Choiseul Secondary School was adjudged the most outstanding debater for the finals.
The closing ceremony was addressed by officials of the Southern Tourism Development Corporation, the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Education and Culture.
During the prize giving ceremony certificates and tokens were handed out of to all debaters, debate coaches and judges as well as the second and third place prize packages to the Vieux fort Comprehensive Secondary Campus B and Vieux-Fort Comprehensive Campus B, respectively.
The winning prize, captured by the Choiseul Secondary School Campus B, comprised EC$1500.00 and the first place trophy (to the school) and a day pass to Coconut Bay Beach Resort for members of the winning team along with a parent or guardian. |
