Thursday, December 18, 2008 - The Cabinet of Ministers has approved funding for sixty additional recruits for the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force. The new recruits will undergo training starting January 2009.
Commenting on the new recruits to be trained and ultimately to be appointed to the police force, Home Affairs Minister Senator Guy Mayers welcomes the increase in the number of new recruits describing it as tangible proof of government’s commitment to maintain a handle on the crime situation here.
“We have set out plans to deliver a more visible police presence on our streets particularly in the Castries area and immediate environs. We are not just delivering on our promise to increase the strength of the force but we are going substantially beyond, by looking at retention and redeployment.”
Mr. Mayers is also hopeful that the appointment of these additional officers will also assist in strengthening the relationship between the police and the community.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is responsible for protecting the constitutional rights of citizens and impartially enforcing law and order.
Mr. Mayers says ‘government will not flinch from its commitment to protect our citizens.’ |
