Award Winning Courtney "Curty" Louis

Tuesday, April 1, 2008 – Award winning Saint Lucian producer, Courtney “Curty” Louis released his soca productions for Carnival 2008 at a cocktail press conference on Saturday at the Pulse Nightclub in Rodney Bay.

According to Louis, Saint Lucia Carnival 2008, upcoming in July, will be “on fire” through the efforts and energy of all local soca artistes. He promised that as of next week, new releases for Carnival 2008 will be hitting the airwaves every Tuesday.

Louis said his aim is to expand the music industry in Saint Lucia taking advantage of the huge amount of local talent.

“Right now I want to encourage the youth—the upcoming artistes. That's why I have been going to the schools, because there is so much talent just waiting to burst, and they need somebody to bring it out.  That is one of my goals,” said Louis.

The Release Party was attended by a number of Saint Lucian artistes, as well as representatives of the Cultural Development Foundation and The Hewanorra Musical Society.

Also present was Tourism Minister Senator the Honourable Allen Chastanet. Minister Chastanet, who in 2007 injected one million dollars into the production of Saint Lucia Carnival, said without the talent that exists on the island, the purpose behind his initiative would not be successful.

“I came here because of Courtney. When I heard him accept his award at the Saint Lucia Music Awards, I was very impressed to hear him say that it didn't matter what other award he had received outside of Saint Lucia, but being recognized at home was the most important thing. That's a man who gets it,” said Chastanet.

Louis appealed to the public to give more support to local artists, saying it was necessary to collaborate to assist with the development of the music industry.
