Dr. Keith Mondesir and Pascal Mahvi engage in constructive discussion

Dr. Keith Mondesir and Pascal Mahvi engage in constructive discussion

Tuesday,  April 8, 2008 –  Within the  next five to six months the physical and economic landscape of  communities in the west of the island will begin to present a brighter, more prosperous picture to both locals and visitors alike.

The enhancement will come to fruition via a project to be undertaken by M. Group Resorts and more specifically Pascal and Caryl Mahvi.  The M Group is the company that developed the Jalousie Plantation Resort.  The idea centres around the formation of a Foundation designed to assist with the redevelopment of Anse-La-Raye, Canaries, Soufriere and Choiseul.

“This association will be receiving ten  percent of our profits from sales of  land. There'll be matching funds for instance from  Mr. Ralph Mondesir, a St. Lucian citizen with French heritage who agreed to match us dollar for dollar. Together, we will be going to the French government and get  donations through them. We are active in the United States as well  to get contributions from developers for the re-development of western communities in St. Lucia.”

The initiative has the blessing of  MP for Canaries/Anse La Raye, Dr. Keith Mondesir. “It always struck me,” Dr. Mondesir said, “that there was no reason for picturesque communities like Anse-La-Raye and Canaries to be among the most underdeveloped and the poorest . So I told him (Mr. Mahvi) that I believe that developers should not only develop what they have, but should develop what's around them and help  other communities in the country. I think developers come in, developers make money and they should put back some where it is needed.”

The M. Group is the proprietor of approximately  190 acres  of land at Jalousie Estates in Soufriere. The company is presently  developing its estate for residential, touristic and commercial purposes.
