Monday,  September 24, 2007 –  The Saint  Lucia National Housing Corporation - NHC- will on Wednesday, September 26th   commission a Housing Project in Marigot  to officially mark the  commencement of the “Marigot Estates Housing Project.”

The new housing project   is located next to the recently completed Marigot Secondary School. Managing Director  - NHC, Joseph Alexander said the project will target first time home owners only offering them house and land packages.

“The Marigot project was chosen because of its location, because of its proximity to Castries and also because  it was available as it was crown lands.  It was very easy for it to be used by the  government organization, which is the Saint Lucia National  Housing Corporation. The government has vested those 24.5 acres of lands into the NHC and we are now obtaining planning approval, Development Control Authority – (DCA)  approval to prepare  a sub-division of 116 lots.”

The NHC intends to offer options of two and three bedroom houses on serviced lots. “ The lots vary in size from 4,200 square feet  to a maximum of 9,500. However the average lot is about 5,000 square feet.  “We intend to offer at the project land and house packages only. Lots cost in the vicinity of  $36,000.00 and that goes up to as much as $70,000.00 . We will offer a variety of houses two and three bedroom units of various designs.”.

The total package of  land and house is estimated to cost between $140,000.00 and $190,000.00.The overall  project  costs  some $14 million dollars.
