Wednesday, October 3, 2007 – Director of the Saint Lucia National Trust,
Mr. Bishnu Tulsie has been awarded by the United Nations Environment Programme
for his outstanding contribution to global environmental protection.
The awards ceremony was part of the 20th Anniversary celebrations of the
Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, held in Montreal,
Canada in September, 2007.
To mark this occasion, the Ozone Secretariat established an international panel
to select persons from around the world who have made outstanding contributions
towards ozone layer and global environmental protection. Mr. Tulsie says he was
not anticipating the award which came as a very pleasant surprise.
“Apparently the panel reviewed the contributions of people to the process
worldwide, and came up with a list and from that list the selections were made,”
explained Tulsie, adding that “It is quite nice to know that one's effort is
recognized.”
Mr. Tulsie is now in possession of the “Implementers Award” which
recognizes the extraordinary contributions made by national ozone units or
individuals, whose work has helped to make the Protocol’s phased out goals a
reality. Mr .Tulsie continues to work in that sector as the Director of the
National Trust, the body responsible for the management of the Pigeon Island
National Landmark and as the Coordinator of the National Capacity Self
Assessment Project. Mr. Tulsie assured that he is still available to render his
expert assistance when called upon to serve in his area of passion.
