Tuesday, October 2, 2007 – September 17th, 2007, marked the 10th, Anniversary of the appointment of Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy as Governor General of Saint Lucia. To mark the occasion Her Excellency has awarded a five year scholarship to a student from her native community of Laborie, a community which she credits as having played a significant role in laying the foundation on which she was to build her academic and professional career.
“The Dame Pearlette Louisy Scholarship” was awarded to Tori Baptiste a former student of the Laborie RC Girls’ Primary School who, with a score of 77% placed second in District 7 in this year’s Common Entrance Examinations.
Miss. Baptiste was nominated by her Principal and the District Education Officer both of whom describe her as a well-disciplined student with the potential to perform exce1lently and that is based on the level of work that she has so far produced and the determination and drive which she has consistently exhibited. Tori is now a student at St. Joseph’s Convent.
Meanwhile the Governor General left the island over the weekend to attend the 12th Annual Conference of Governors General and Presidents of the Caribbean Community taking place in the Commonwealth of Dominica. The theme setting the pace for the gathering is “Dominica: Challenges, Changes and Development. “ Chairman for that meeting will be His Excellency Dr. Nicholas Liverpool, President of Dominica.
While in Dominica Her Excellency will also attend celebrations marking the 5 anniversary of the ordination of Bishop Gabriel Malzaire as Bishop of Dominica. |
