Friday, November 23, 2007 – Registered voters of the Micoud North constituency will go to the polls today Monday November 26th, 2007 to elect a new Parliamentary Representative. This is after some one hundred and seventeen police officers exercised their franchise last Friday.
Five candidates will contest the Micoud North by-election. They include Jeanine Compton Rambally of the United Workers Party, Silas Wilson representing the St. Lucia Labour Party and Marius Wilson, George Daniel and Mac Donald Alexander, who are all independent candidates.
The by-election became necessary following the death of the constituency's Parliamentary Representative, the late Sir John Compton. Chief Elections Officer Carson Raggie encouraged the registered voters to exercise their franchise.
"The General Public of the Micoud North Constituency that is the time that they have to exercise their franchise. So they should all go out, all those who are registered, go out and vote for the candidate of their choice."
There are five polling centres, but eighteen polling divisions within those polling centres. The centres are the Praslin Community Centre, the Mon Repos Combined School, the Patience Combined School, the Micoud Parish Centre and the Micoud Secondary School.
There are six thousand, three hundred and eighty-eight people registered to vote in the Micoud North By-Elections. That includes the one hundred and seventeen police officers who cast their ballot on Friday.
