Tuesday,  November 27, 2007 –  The Ministry of Labour, Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with, “VERMAX WORKS”, an employment agency based in Calgary, Canada, has been sourcing employment from May 19th, 2007, for Saint Lucian nationals who are interested in working in Canada

To date, through the combined efforts of both parties, approximately eighty (80) Saint Lucians have been placed in jobs in various sectors such as hotels and restaurants, warehouse, road construction and building construction and trucking. The rate of pay ranges from Cdn.$14.00 to Cdn. $26.00 per hour and the contract periods vary from 12  to 24 months.

Minister for Labour, Honourable Edmund Estephane and Mr. Bertram Monrose - the officer directly involved with the programme – recently got an opportunity to observe the conditions under which the workers are employed and assisted in the resolution of any outstanding issues affecting the Saint Lucian workers.

Minister Estephane also met with the agency representatives and employers with a view to sourcing additional jobs for nationals of Saint Lucia and to further cement this mutually beneficial relationship.
